Re: ovulationFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 23 Jul 2002 08:27:07 -0500 (CDT)
Polycysts do not neccisarily stop you from ovulating. It's typically a combination of factors--insulin resistence, PCOS, thyroid and other hormonal imbalances, etc. But you CAN have a period and NOT ovulate. I have VERY regular periods and do not ovulate without medication. There is typically a 36-48 hour window of ovulation. In women with a 28 day cycle, it is typically around day 14. MY RE advises that if you typically ovulate around day 14 to have sex every other day beginning on day 8 until day 19. The only way to absolutely confirm ovualation is through bloodwork, a serum progesterone level taken around day 21-23. A serum progesterone of around 13 or higher is indicitive of ovulation. I personally use the Clearplan Fertility Monitor to determine when I ovulate (I am on Clomid and Metformin). The first couple of months, my RE had me use the monitor and she checked my bloodwork to make sure that the two were in sync. Which they were. Some women find BBT to be helpful. That was not for me. Best of luck.
