What's wrong with me - PCOS maybe?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 17 Jul 2002 10:37:58 -0500 (CDT)
My former GYN told me everything was in my head and not female related. I kept pushing him and insisted on seeing an endocrinologist, because I thougt I might have PCOS. The Endocrinologist did all kinds of blood tests and said that I didn't have it, but I had Iron Def. Anemia. I was sent to another doctor who agreed with the diagnosis. I cannot take oral iron and had very heavy long periods. In October, I had a hysterectomy (ovaries were left in, because accoring to the new GYN they were perfect and did not need removing) and had endometrosis removed. Well, the iron problem did not get any better and in April I was dx. with Celiac Disease (allergic reaction to gluten in wheat, rye, barley, and oats). Last month, I was diagnosed with Rosacea also, because of the acne and flushing/red face. However, back in May I went to my current GYN for a check-up and told him about pain on my right side. He found that my right ovary was enlarged with ting cysts covering the ovary. My left ovary was normal size, but he said it was polycystic (sp?). The GYN said we would just watch the cysts to see what happend/how it progressed. However, no follow-up time was offered. I have had thinning head hair and abnormal hair growth on my face, upper inner thighs, between belly button and pubic hair, and around nipples for about 3 years. I also have problems with my legs getting tingly, my legs "fall asleep" pretty easy, and they turn slightly red when they feel this way. The special diet I'm on for the gluten intollerace has made me feel better and I've lost some weight, but the question is could I still possibly have PCOS. I'm due to go back to the Endocrinologist in November to see how I'm progressing. Do I need to try to see her sooner? Do I need to see the GYN sooner then my next yearly check-up in May 2003? Does anyone have anything like this going on with them? I greatly appreciate any help and/or advice. THANKS!
