Recently Diagnosed- Seeking Lifestyle ReccomendationsFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 16 Jul 2002 04:36:48 -0500 (CDT)
I am 21 y.o and have suffered with irregular periods, hirsutism, acne and hormonal migraines(and mood swings)since I began menstruating. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS, although I was told my case is mild, I still suffer from the symptoms and find they affect the way I would like to be living life at this age. I was not made aware upon diagnosis of the link to insulin resistance and diabetes, and have only realised this through my own research. My parents both have a strong history of mature onset diabetes, and I am realising that I am going to have to make some drastic lifestyle changes if I am to have my best chance at being as healthy as possible as I mature. I am not overweight, but have begun to feel very sluggish, with my weight fluctuating dramatically.I have been on the pill for years and after an ill decided break am about to go back onto Dianne for management of my symptoms. I tend to gain a fair bit of weight on the pill and am hoping to start making changes to try and combat this. I have had a look at Atkins, and the Zone, but am wary of fad diets. Can anyone reccommend a plan of attack? I am not sure how to approach this and appreciate hearing how others have dealt with it. Thanks
