Re: Zoloft and Getting PregnantFrom: Jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 12 Jul 2002 10:49:52 -0500 (CDT)
On the flip side my edndocrnologist said, don't. If I get pregant she wants me off everything but my insulin (sensitizer). I don't know what amount you take, or if you would consider this, but I was once on Wellbutrin. It is a class B anti-depressant. I have a great deal of trust in my DR. she specialized in PCOS. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. This is from "The Pill Book" In one study, about 5% of pregnant women who took fluoxetine [prozac] during the first 3 months had babies with major abnormalities. Animal studies with the other SSRIs [zoloft is a Sertraline product] show similar results. In addition, women who were taking this drug were more likely to deliver prematurely. Do not take SSRI if you are or might become pregnant without first weighing the potential benifits and risks with your doctor. The book goes on to say women takig SSRIs and breastfeeding had children that slept more, ate less, and lost weight.
