Re: AnxietyFrom: Jen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 8 Jul 2002 15:18:58 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Lynn, I was officially diagnosed with PCOS at 19, after being ignored by doctors for years (common complaint from what I've read on this forum!). A few months later, just after my 20th birthday, I began using the prescription drug Celexa for anxiety and depression, which I had been experiencing since just after my 19th birthday. After being in talking therapy for a year, my psychologist and I decided that an antidepressant would help along with talking. I'm 22 now, and my anxiety and depression is totally under control with the Celexa. I still continue talking therapy with a psychologist, and see my psychiatist every six months for medication management. Anxiety is hereditary (as Christie wrote) and that's definitely the case with me. I believe my anxiety is more hereditary than anything else. I always knew I had PCOS--the diagnosis didn't make me anymore anxious. Actually, it was more of a relief! I hope you are receiving help for the anxiety. People will tell you to just "get a grip," but unless they've been there, the advice is useless. Therapy does help, whether it involves medication or not. Good luck to you! Jen
