If Your Fasting Blood Sugar is Above 90 You Are At Risk of Heart DiseaseFrom: Pat (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 8 Jul 2002 14:15:21 -0500 (CDT)
It sounds like you might try to find another provider whom you can work with. It is possible they won't give you the preseciption because your sugar levels are normal, and Metformin (nor any medication to my knowledge) has not been approved for IR only. You need a provider who is familiar with Syndrome X and can help you manage it that way. In any event avoiding the starchy carbohydrates, sugar and flour, and getting daily exercise can only improve how your cells utilze insulin, which it the problem. I'd be doing these things first, before pushing for medication. If you are hypoglycemic, you need frequent meals of protein, and always protein with anything that will raise your blood sugar. Metformin or other insulin sensitizers might not be indicated for someone who is hypoglycemic. In any event, you need someone who can explain things to you. My fasting glucose level was normal, but it was the one with insulin that was abnormal. My blood sugars are very low. Mine obviously isn't under control with strict diet and exercise that I am able to perform. My anxiety attacks are hypoglecemic attacks. Why are they still withholding medications from me?
