What You Should Know about Diabetes

In one of my professional journals I came across the following handout I would highly recommend you open and print out. It is in .pdf format, but you can still print it once you open it with the PDF Reader. It is a nice summary of the progression towards diabetes, and it suggests that

<<Blood glucose control is difficult to maintain with oral agents after 5 to 7 years. Most type 2 patients must be switched to insulin. >>

To me this is an excellent argument for getting your blood gluse within normal limits and trying to keep it there. This can be done with diet and exercise initially. DIABETES CAN BE PREVENTED. Please pay attention to this. Once diabetes has been diagnosed, you cannot go back, and the damage is already under way. Knowing you have IR is a godsend, as you can prevent or dramatically slow the developement of this condition. Women with PCOS in any form are at great risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes.
