The meter I have uses small samples for their strips too, and says I can use my forearm. But, I can't get enough blood out of my forearm, so I've gone back to my finger too, when I do it.

For buying meters, there are usually promotions where you get the machine free, or very cheap, if you buy the box of test strips. Your pharmacist can help you pick one out, and let you know which ones have promotions going.
