Hi!

Just wanted to put in my two cents in... If it is true that Dr. Atkins has cardiomyopathy I have a few things to say about it. I agree with the last gal - it is different from having a heart attack. Yes, it is a heart condition but one that is often hereditary. My Grandmother has it and so does her son - my dad. My Grandma was in her early forties when she flat lined because of it. No weight problem, good diet and she rode her bike everyday. My dad now has it - he just turned fifty and is also of normal weight and eats a good diet (my mom sees to that) and is VERY active. It is also very possible that if Dr. Atkins has cardiomyopathy that he is in the hospital for it. My dad's cardiologist said that the average person with cardiomyopathy has two hospital stays per year due to the condition and it can lead to a heart attack.

Anyway, if you get the Atkins book (it's only about $5 paperback) it explains everything about how carbs actually are the enemies of our hearts - not fat. I know that it sounds contrary to everything we've been told but his patient's blood pressures and cholesterol levels actually GO DOWN on the diet. Dr. Atkins himself is a cardiologist. My endo said the same thing and she actually RECOMMENDS the diet to all of her PCOS patients - especially to the ones trying to conceive since it often helps women lose weight fast and can help hormone levels. There is a website called http://www.atkinsfriends.com and it is a site dedicated to helping people low carb. There is a section there where regular people like us can post before and after pictures and share success stories. MANY people if not MOST people report a lowering of their blood pressure and/or cholesterol levels while also experiencing weight loss. If after reading that the Atkins diet still scares you then you could try a different low carb diet that doesn't require as strict of an induction period. Even then, keep in mind that in the Atkins diet induction doesn't last forever. Many people get confused by that. God bless, Tera
