Hi!

I have PCOS and I am now overweight. When I first started showing PCOS symptoms my weight gain started and it was actually one of my first symptoms. I had been of normal weight or even underweight my whole life until that time when I was late in high school. At that time I was 5'7" and only fluctuated a few pounds. So, at the beginning of my PCOS I had a fabulous body (if I do say so myself) and I was 125-130 lbs. The weight started to come on slowly and then it piled on faster and faster. I had never had a problem with weight until then and at first I thought it may be kind of a "freshman 15" but then it became a freshman 30 and then a freshman 40, etc.... I had not changed my eating habits AT ALL and I was gaining weight. I thought it was my fault but because I had not changed anything in my diet I was really confused about this. My doctor was also amazed at how fast I was gaining. She said that there is no possible way I could gain that fast unless I was totally GORGING myself and eating pie after pie and cake after cake all day!

I now weigh about 250 and I have kind of plateaued in the last two years - again, without doing anything to change my diet. I have recently started low carbing and have not noticed much change yet. I'll lose a few pounds and then gain a few.

My cousin also has PCOS. Weight gain was probably her last symptom. She started with ovarian cysts and hair loss and facial hair. Then she put on weight. Only a few pounds at first and then FAST - like I did. She gained A LOT of weight and then became very dedicated to lose it and she did but it was HARD work and she struggles hard to keep it off everyday. God bless, Tera
