Alicia - I'm new to the board, too, and saw no one answered your question. Definately ask your doctor to back up his/her diagnosis with some testing! I know that there are many conditions that can cause missed periods, wacked hormones, etc. I'm not sure what symptoms you went to your doc with, but a physical exam is not enough. If he/she won't give you the right blood work, ask for a referral to an endocrinologist, or find one on your own if your insurance allows it.

I'm 39 now, but when I was 17, my doctor did the same thing to me and sent me on my merry way with some birthcontrol pills.

Now, we know that this condition is not just annoying, but can cause serious health issues. Read up as much as you can, there's lot's of info out there. Make a list of all the things you find and go back to your doctor to review them. If he/she looks doesn't speak to the info you find in a satisfactory way, get your butt to another doctor!

Good Luck
