Re: Just how many PCOSer's are overweight? (Kind of long)From: Pat (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 29 Jun 2002 09:17:29 -0500 (CDT)
I would suspect that there was underlying PCOS, that is now coming into play. I suggest that the PCOS helped bring on the weight faster, and made losing it more difficult. It seems some women gain weight very quickly all of a sudden, about the time the PCOS is diagnosed. Doctors will suggest that the weight gain caused the PCOS. I beg to differ. I think Hyperinsulinemia triggered the PCOS, Insulin Resistance being the first stage of Hyperinsulinemia. Also, frequent dieting seems to facilitate this process, of the cells becoming more resistant.
