Re: Atkins Diet -- heartattack

Atkins had a heart attack due to complications from a virus. NOT from
atherosclerosis (hardening/blocking of the arteries). It could happen to anyone.
Many people, including myself, have found a lowering of triglicerides and
total cholesterol, and an improvement in their cholesterol ratio when on the
Atkins diet. Personally, my cardiac risk panel labs are much better now than
when I was on a low-fat diet.
People just get all worked up about it because it turns the USDA food pyramid
upside down. It's contrary to what we've been told is best for everyone, but
the carb-based diet obviously is NOT best for everyone. It works fine for
some, but we're not a homogeneous species in all aspects.
I felt obligated to clear this misconception up.
