HI Sonnet...it sounds like yourDoc made you a soft splint made out of the same material we make sports guards out of. when you get coverage again you should talk to him about getting a hard splint made instead...they are more comfortable and fit more like an orthodontic retainer that snaps over the tops of your teeth. A lot of DDS will make the soft type because they are cheaper and can be made in office. The hard splints are more expnsive because they have to be made at a dental laboratory.... Have you thought about going to one of the Dental schoolsto have your TMJ treated... they are lower cost and have specialized TMD clinics...University of the Pacific School of Dentistry where my Boss teaches one day a week has a facial pain and TMD clinic that is wonderful.Might be worth checking out... In the mean time I am sure you can call your Dentist with questions they usually will answere them for you on the phone or one of His Dental Assistants can answere it for you. also check out the article in JADA about night gaurds I already gave the link in an earlier posting. The article explains why hard plastic gaurds are better...... I hope all is going well for you and Pete... Your Venting note earlier in the week got to me because I am going through something simular at my Job...my co-worker who left her husband 5 weeks ago found out she is 6 weeks pregnant.I am having a hard time trying to be happy for this woman.=( Although this did get her back with her husband... but I dont feel a child can fix all there problems... oh..well. Write me in private if you need anymore info on TMD or websites about it. Take care,Dona
