Grinding, IR, and Jaw pain-a hypoglycemic problem?From: Katie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 28 Jun 2002 12:09:22 -0500 (CDT)
I was *very* interested in this since I am a grinder with IR. I also know from caring for my diabetic mother and having several friends with Diabetes that teeth grinding a jaw clenching is a *very* common result of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). There is an artical at http://healersoftheworld.com/services/goodhealth122501.html that briefly mentions the correlation between blodd sugar and jaw clenching. Even after my mom could no longer communicate with me, I would watch her face and jaw for tightening and would use that as one of many guideposts to check her blood sugar levels. Since many of us are IR, it seems like we may also be prone to hypoglycemia which is documented in diabetics to cause jaw and teeth clenching. So, to me, it seems like a correlation may indeed be there between IR and clenching/grinding. Especially at night when our body is fasting. (but who knows, ha ha) ps the best thing I ever did was to pay the money for a dental orthotic. It is small and uninvasive and has kept me grind and pain free (or almost grind free) for the last year. I love my orthotic!!
