I just found out a couple of weeks ago that I have pcos. I have always had problems with my period. When I first started I would bleed alot and would not stop, then I would have one every other month so my doctor put me on birth control pills. I was on the pill for 4 years and stop taking it in Sept of 2001 to try to get pregnant. I didn't have a period for 3 months and took pregnancy tests and the came out negative. I went to the doctor and she gave me provera to take and said I probably did not have a period because my body needed to get use to not being on the pill. I took the provera and in seven days I had a period. The next month I did not have one so I thought for sure I was pregnant. Well I wasn't. I did not have a period for 3 more months. I set me up an appointment with an obgyn and she did some blood tests and they came back as me having pcos. I have alot of questions. With me being on the pill for 4 years and I actually had a period every month, will I still have to take medication or fertility drugs for a while before I get pregnant if I even can? And will I have to take provera or any other medicine every month to have a period? If you have a period does that mean you ovulate and if not and I do not ovulate is there medicine out there that will make me ovulate? Someone told me that the older you get the harder it is to get pregnant if you have pcos, is that true? If you have pcos does that mean you have cysts on your ovaries or that you can get cysts on your ovaries? I took a glucose tolerance test and an insulin test Friday, if the tests come back that my levels are high or low is there a medicine to take to make me ovulate or help me get pregnant without fetility drugs? I know I have alot of questions and I have asked my doctor alot, but if someone could please try and help me with them I would really appreciate it.
