Hi Trista
I am 23, 5ft & 1/2inch and weigh 58kg (not sure of the conversion about
130?). I have a period every few years & suffer from fatigue, mood swings,
bloating, cramps & wacky hormone levels. I have very mild hirsutism but
nothing like some of the girls on here.
I used to be an athlete & weighed just 48kg back then. When I stopped I
didn't eat any more then I had been, actually probably less but all I ate was
bread & pasta - the staple diet of most athletes. My weight sawed very
quickly (about 20kg) & I've had real trouble keeping it down since then. My
symptoms became worse after I stopped my sport & I was given Diane -35 which
gave me periods & a lot of weight :) I've binged, dieted & all the rest until
I fell pregnant last year (March). Then I began eating a very healthy diet,
now that I have stopped breast feeding I have cut my carbs down to 100/ day &
I joined the gym yesterday. I have just been tested for insulin resistance &
will know the results any day now. All in all I'm actually only about 10
pounds overweight & from what has happened to me I'm a great believer in diet
& exercise. Once all of my test results come back my endo will be advising me
as to whether I need to be on Metformin or not. I have a question weight gain
is not a symptom of PCOS, only weight gain around your middle, so those PCOS
sufferers who are overweight is this caused by insulin resistance? Oh and I
have another question, I recently read an article on IR which stated that
losing up to 15% of your current body weight can bring blood pressure down
and increase your cells' sensitivity to insulin, so is it possible that being
overweight may cause IR & not the other way around. One more query, for those
of you on a low carb diet, how long did it take before you began to notice
the effects.
Ok that's about it
Take care
Kirstie
