ABNORMAL BREAKTHROUGH BLEEDINGFrom: nuria (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 22 Jun 2002 12:11:46 -0500 (CDT)
Hi everybody. I'm nearly 32 years of age and, around this time last year, about 10 months after the birth of my first child, I started experiencing breakthrough bleeding. First it was some mucusy discharge tinged with blood, always around the time of ovulation, which would last for a few days. This kept repeating itself month after month and it always increased in amount and duration, and it tended to come after physical exercise. I had a pap smear, blood tests and physical examinations at my gyn, and everything came off OK. Finally, I had a D & C in November, about 5 months since my bleeding had started. Post-op bleeding was slightly heavier and lasted longer than expected but, once it ended, I was fine. My periods resumed normally and I had no further bleeding - until this month when, after a jog, the whole pattern started again. I have been bleeding for about 4 days now, and it keeps getting heavier, although I am not soaking any pads - just somewhere in between spotting and downright bleeding. Initially blood was pinkish, it then changed to red, went to a dark brown colour and it is now red again (flow has increased today). All this is driving me nuts. I'm a single mother and I shudder to think I may have cancer or something like that. Also, the fact that I have been fine for only 7 months after surgery is not at all encouraging. I would love to hear from somebody who has had, or is having, similar symptoms. Thank you.
