Just to clarify, insulin IS a hormone. People tend to think of sex hormones only (eg: progesterone, estrogens, testosterone, etc), when they think of "hormones," but it's a very lengthy list of substances, including insulin, several thyroid-related hormones, growth hormones, calcium use related hormones, etc.
