Anonymous it's because  some of us crave sugar at night in our sleep. At least that's what my orthodontist said and he's also a TMJ specialist. Now that I'm on the Glucophage XR I'm not clenching my jaw in my sleep as much as I used to. But even if I do it twice a week after next week he's gonna fit me w/ a device to wear at night that will force my jaws apart everytime I do it. I hope this helps.
