Glucophage dosing

I am currently taking 500 mg of Glucophage twice a day (total, 1000 mg). I think I need to increase my dose (I'm going for more labs tomorrow before I have my next annual visit). I'm wondering if it would be better to take 850 twice a day (1700 total), or 500 three times a day (1500). I'm leaning toward the twice a day, since I know it would be hard for me to take pills at lunch time. In the past, people have said that Glucophage has a long half-life. How long is it?
