Re: (to Paula/Belle) Starting glucophage with normal fasting insulin

Hi Paula -

My initial fasting insulin bloodwork over 2 years ago was 52. I was put on Gluc...worked my way up from 500 to 1500...then went to 1700..About 4 months ago, I switched to the XR. I never had the IGTT done...I'm assuming it's b/c my fasting insulin was already "bad", so why go through the test for no reason...it's not like they came back normal and THEN did the test o see what happens later...we already knew that it was bad. My numbers have gone down and up again over the last couple of years...although, like I mentioned, I still haven't gotten the carb thing under control. :(( I have noticed that my fasting glucose numbers have been rising in the last couple of tests...still not really out of the "normal range <125" but very very close to it...i always used to average somewhere between 85-105. Here's a stupid question...why does it matter what an IGTT says if I am already on the meds? This always confused me. I do understand why someone should have it done if their insulin comes back normal, b/c it may not show up until later, but in my case, it seems like it's unnecessary. I've never understood this.
