Re: Can Anyone Share Depo Provera Shot ExperienceFrom: Brenda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 16 Jun 2002 11:47:06 -0500 (CDT)
I have endometriosis and the pain has become unbearable. I was advised by my family physician to try the Depo Provera shot. Birth control pills made me gain weight. I told the doctor I didn't want to take any more medication that would do this. I was 190 at the time and I am now 220 with high blood pressure, extreme fatigue, arm and leg pain, dizziness, nausea, bloating, swollen fingers and feet, indigestion and stomach problems. As someone said especially at night. After supper I get a stomach ache and then bowel problems with alot of gas. I urinate more frequently. I only had these types of problems during pregnancy. I look like I could deliver twins because my stomach is so large. The doctor says it is not the Depo shot and that I need to lose weight to get rid of alot of my problems. I have stopped the shot for six months now and the symptoms have remained but now I have hot flashes and no periods and extreme sharp abdominal pain. I am going for ultrasounds and pap tests to see if there is any cysts, tumours or cancer. I keep gaining and I cannot lose the weight even through dieting. I would not recommend this to anyone. I may have to get a hysterectomy now. If anyone else has had these symptoms please email me. I am thinking about a class action lawsuit against the company here in Canada and possibly the company in the U.S. that produces this medication. The more information gathered the better. If anyone is interested in becoming involved let me know by email also.
