IR: Getting worse?From: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 15 Jun 2002 21:08:38 -0500 (CDT)
For those who don't know, I have been diagnosed with PCOS for about 3 years now. It's been moderately well controlled in those 3 years. I am on 3g glucophage daily, as well as thyroid medication. I have 2 skin tags in my armpit, that appeared just before puberty, a good 15 - 20 years ago now. I have never had any others. UNTIL THIS WEEK! I have two new ones, one in my other armpit, on in my elbow. So far I don't feel or see any on my neck, but I am worried! I just got back some bloodwork from last week. After a VERY stressful 16+ hour fast (I was bounced between three hospitals before they could do my bloodwork!) my insulin came up as 15 mIU/mL. I was worried that it would be falsely low after such a long fast! Of couse, my lab lists normal values as being 5 - 30 mIU/mL, but hey. 15 is too high for me. Could my IR be getting worse? Why, especially on such a high dose of Met? My diet hasn't really changed. Does this mean all the rest of my PCOS symptoms are going to get worse, like the skin tags? I'm worried!!
