Lea,

PCOS can be a challenge, but we're all getting through it. Unfortunately, most doctors don't know a whole lot about PCOS, so we learn about it ourselves and tell our doctors about what we learn. One thing you may want to try are cutting down on your carbohydrates (sugar and starch). That can help control your symptoms. Also, ask your doctor to take a fasting insulin test, or to test the insulin also if you do a glucose tolerance test. Many of us are on a medicine called Glucophage or metformin (same thing, just brand name and generic). It also helps a lot with the symptoms by controlling the insulin.

Go to http://www.PCOSupport.org. They have a lot of information for you. You can sign onto the Teen listserv, and others if you are interested. You can also find a local support group, so you can meet other women who are going through the same things.

You don't have to feel stupid. This is all new to you. I don't think you need to feel very scared. In fact, you're better off than most of us, since you found out so early. Many others have had symptoms for years without an answer. Because you know so early, you can prevent or delay some of the later issues. The best thing you could do now is to find a doctor who knows a lot about PCOS, if you don't have one already, and to educate yourself about PCOS. The website will help with that.

Good luck, and stick around here.

Renee
