Re: Pregnancy?From: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 14 Jun 2002 11:29:03 -0500 (CDT)
First, YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN ABOUT THIS!!! :-) (I know, that's really easy for me to say...) Anyway YES you could have ovulated and not gotten preg. It can take a normal healthy couple (with a normal regular menstrual cycling woman and normal sperm count ect man) up to two years to get pregnant with regular unprotected intercourse. TWO YEARS, that's right. Yes, you hear of women getting preg the first time they try but it doesn't always happen. Who knows why? I have read that if you are under 26, you have a 50% chance of getting preg with any given ovulation. If you are 27-34, you have a 40% chance. I forget what it is over 34, I only paid attention to the ages that applied to me. :-) (I'll be 26 when I start...) I have also read a figure of a 20% chance in any given cycle... but that seems really low to me. As for the pains you are having... could be gas, could be constipation, could be pregnancy, who knows? By stomach do you mean stomach like where food goes, or do you really mean abdomen? If you mean abdomen, exactly where? Side, uterus area, dead center...? You are so worked up about this, it could be stress. You could also be wanting to be preg so bad that you are giving yourself symptoms of a hysterical pregnancy... is that term even used any more??? It's the 14th today. Like I said before, I think you should give yourself till the 19th to do a preg test. You have a good chance of it being accurate then. At that point you should either have had a period or know that one isn't coming. If you don't get a period a few days after the 19th, and your test was neg, take another test. Till then... sorry, but yes, you can ovulate AND have sex AND still not get pregnant. Doesn't mean it won't happen... it doesn't always happen the first try. If you haven't had a period since December 2000, your body has a LOT of healing to do, a LOT of hormonal imbalances to fix... be patient! I don't think the chances of getting preg on the first go-around in your situation are very high, but that is just my opinion... AND it by no means your chances overall are poor. Good luck and may the higher power of your choice grant you the patience you need to get through this! - Jodi
