Re: Can't get insurance because of PCOS, help!

It is confusing! My husband was told by several agents that because I was considered infertile and of childbearing age, they would not insure me. I know, it's a paradox.

I personally have never had a problem getting insurance as long as it was through a job. I was able to coverage for everything. It was only when I wanted private insurance for myself and my husband that we got this shocking news.

I would imagine that you would be covered under your fiance's insurance as long as he has a job providing the coverage. It's the "preexisting clause" that will get you with private insurance.

I have talked to several women in Minnesota with PCOS who rushed their weddings so that they could get insurance coverage. Both of them said they did want to get married, but not so hastily.

The agents we talked to asked questions about weight and general health conditions. It was the concern about my weight and the possibility of diabetes developing that caused me to be denied private coverage. So if you are considered within a normal weight range, that would help. They will score your answers and tell you how much it will cost, if you can be covered.

Good luck! I hope you can get coverage under your fiance. If not, you may want to investigate a medical savings account. I have heard talk of international insurance, like what travelers buy. Don't know much more about it than that though.
