Hi Melissa. I had a successful pregnancy with metformin. We had tried for five years, but in Jan of 1999 my doctor started me on metformin. I began to workout twice a week for just 20 minutes or so. By March I had lost 11 pounds, so we began clomid 50mg days 5-9. I went in on day 15 for an IUI, artificial insemination. I was finally pregnant. I was taken off the metformin for my pregnancy, they were unsure in 99 about the affects. I did have gestational diabetes which I was able to control until the 7th month and then had to have the insulin. I had toxemia during labor but my son was perfectly healthy and only 9 pounds 4 ounces. (My doc kept warning me that I would have an 11 pounder!) I ended up losing around 25 pounds during the first two trimesters and six weeks after my son's birth I was at my starting weight. We went through a lot of invasive "stuff" before this success, but on the day of the IUI, we just knew it would work. We just had another IUI this past Sunday, I am very hopeful this time around too, but realistic that this is not a full-proof way. Good Luck to You.
