We honeymooned in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. If you're in the US, it's economical, since the dollar goes further in Canada. It's a beautiful land, with Celtic and French-Canadian heritage. They have a Gaelic college, where people come from even Ireland and Scotland to learn the language and culture. We happened to be there during a festival they had, took a gaelic lesson, heard musicians and singers, and had a blast. The people on the island are wonderful. There is a rich history, with an old fort that's "living history," that is, people in costume, living the life of the time.

We stayed in bed-and-breakfasts for $50 Canadian or so a night (in 1996). If anyone wants more info on the island, or some referrals to good B&Bs (including our favorite one EVER), or places to avoid (at all costs), let me know. You can e-mail me at rcordrey@earthlink.net.
