Metformin does carry a risk of lactic acidosis but it is very rare. It is important to drink enough water with the met because it is cleared through your kidneys... you want them functioning optimally! I believe the info that comes with the meds also says something about not taking met while you are exercising strenuously??? i can't remember... they don't give you the leaflet with refills at my pharmacy!

I would suggest that you find out what this "family disease" is and ask your doctor if that plus the fact that you are on met puts you at a much higher risk.

i have been on met myself for just under a year and a half and it's doing SOMETHING... i'm not perfect yet but I have 5-7 week cycles whereas they used to be 4-7 month cycles, something like that! definitely a move in the right direction!
