Hi Clara:

What is it you want to ask me about Pamelor?

I read on the internet that it is an anti-depressant, but taken in a low dosage, like I am, can work as a pain killer for fibromyalgia and other such disorders. My doctor (Neurologist) said it helps this as well as neuropathy and chronic fatigue.

I have taken one pill for 2 nights now. My experience so far is that I need to take it early in the evening, no later than 9:00, because it really knocks me out. In a good way, not like a sleeping pill. I get in a really good 9 hours sleep and feel more awake and almost pain free in the morning. This is a change for me from waking in the middle of the night not being able to get back to sleep, and waking up feeling tired and stiff and sore. But it's only been 2 days, after a couple weeks it'll be interesting to see how this medication is working.

Don't feel bad about firing your doctor. I have fired several in the past year, and wish I could go back to all the idiot doctors I've seen in the last 20 years and give them a piece of my mind for not listening to me.

My current Neurologist who gave me the Pamelor is not knowledgeable in PCOS. I had to explain it to him how insulin resistance caused it and gave him a little briefing on the disease. But he IS knowledgeable about the problems that insulin/glucose imbalances cause to the body in relation to muscles and nerves, which was important to me, because my gyn and endo had no idea about that part. I guess it takes more than 1 or 2 doctors to get everything accomplished.
