Re: Barb C from ClaraFrom: Mark (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 1 Jun 2002 07:29:40 -0500
Hi Barb C. You are one tough lady!! I can't say how the Lupus is affecting you, but for me the tingling is from a herniated disk in my lower back. That is what knocks out my leg. I took two flights of stairs down yesterday and suffered all day. My upper back is where there is a trigger point that is constantly sore. After starting Neurontin and increasing the dosage to get to a comfort level, I found relief. Recently the Glucophage was upped by 1000mg. that is when I noticed a difference in my upper back pain. I recently read about diabetic neuropathy in trigger points caused by a pooling of glucose. Both my wrist have carpal tunnel, which is a pinching of a nerve. I would have trouble when holding a phone too long, which is what I do all day. My hands would go numb and I can't hold on to anything. I would be waken with pain in the middle of the night, so I was given wrist braces that I hated. I don't have this trouble any more. My aunt who is 73 with diabetes has terrible leg and feet problems. I went with her for a emergency doctor appointment after 3 nights without sleep. Her pain specialist increased the Neurontin. I'm 48 almost 100 pounds overweight and lead a sedentary lifestyle. I have heard yoga being helpful, I liked water aerobics and haven't made time in my life for them. Stretching those muscles even while in bed will keep them from being tight. I did learn exercises I should do in physical therapy. I'm eating low carb and lost 24 pounds. Every day is a struggle, My husband cooks and feels he doesn't know what to make for me. I say make what you want I'll eat what I should with more veggies. I had ovarian cysts rupture and endometriosis so I was given Lupron for 6 months, which put me into early, temporary menopause. Then on the pill for 6 months. I chose to quit this in Jan. and now have hot flashes. I was to be on for 5 years to transition into menopause as endometriosis feeds off of estrogen. My blood pressure went too high so a med was added. I kept gaining and felt terrible, depression, confusion, crabby. Then I read an article on PCOS, HEY that's me. In Feb. I had a stress test and was referred to a cardiologist. I had a heart cath. on Valentines day. I have 40% blockage in one artery. In March I was dx IR/PCOS. my Endo. is very concerned about my high cholesterol and triglycerides. I had been taking aspirin and Lipator and now have added a niacin derivative because I will have an early heart attack if this isn't addressed. Insulin resistance increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. This is very lengthy so I invite you to contact me personally at stewski@wi.rr.com as we do relate in each others suffering. Any movement yoga, stretching, a little dance is beneficial. You feel better after a shower because it warms up your muscles. Would you be eligible for any in home physical therapy? Wishing you well. Clara
