Re: Type II diabetes, be hyperinsulemic, but not have pcos? From: Pat (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 May 2002 14:33:24 -0500 (CDT)
It appears PCOS may be a gemetic condition. Not every woman with IR and/or Diabetes would have PCOS. Most, if not all women with PCOS and Tyoe II Diabetes have IR. Men can have IR. Anyone can have IR. So, high insulin levels can affect everyone, and it is though that is a genetic thing. But not all folks with IR have PCOS also. IR is the thread that connects all of those things together. So, the goal of healthy lifestyle choices is to slow the progression of IR, and thus decrease the long term effects of high insulin levels. It is felt PCOS is due to high insulin levels, and high androgen levels. Here are some of the signs of this progression: http://home.attbi.com/~cnmpat/bloodsugarstages.htm Pat Sonnenstuhl, ARNP
