Instant oatmeal usually has other "stuff" in it. Regular oatmeal is just oats.

Bring one cup of water to boil. Add one cup of oatmeal to the boiling water. Immediately turn down the heat low. Stir. When oats are soft, pour into a bowl. Takes 5 minutes. Note that the oatmeal will be a little chunkier than the instant kind.

Grains: Besides oats; rice, millet, buckwheat, spelt, barley, quinoa, and amaranth are all good grains. Health food stores sell great combinations of these grains in cereals, pastas, breads, etc. Try a few, see what you like. My personal favorite two cereal brands are Health Valley and Natures Path. And my favorite bread is called Ezekiel Bread.
