Re: Yasmin and hair problemsFrom: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 May 2002 09:38:49 -0500 (CDT)
Most BCPs help with hair loss, at least from a stopping the loss aspect. Not sure about the regrowth. My guess as to why is that BCPs pretty much put your body in a hormonal state comparable to pregnancy in many ways, and most women I've talked to who have been pregnant say their hair and nails never looked better than while they were preg... So BCPs must do similar things to your hair? I used to shed a lot more than I thought was normal (I have long blonde hair and there would be long blonde hairs all over our house, floor, furniture... wearing dark clothes was a nightmare because I would have long blonde hairs all over my back, shoulders, front...) but when I went on BCPs, it stopped completely. I wasn't on Yasmin... I went through a variety of other pills. When I went off BCPs I started losing hair like crazy, as if my body was making up for lost time... and my endocrinologst assured me that it would stop, that is was just the sudden hormonal shift, that this was the same thing that happened when women gave birth... and after a month, it did stop. (Good thing... I don't think our pipes could have handled much more liquid plumber...) I don't have a problem with hair loss at all now, which I hope is the glucophage... Yasmin MIGHT be slightly superior to other BCPs in this respect, but I'm not certain. It might help with regrowth in additon to stopping loss. At a minimun though, just by being a BCP, it should help with loss.
