Insulin resistance is very common. Insulin resistance is exactly what it says, our bodies are resisting the use of insulin. As a result we continue to produce more and then the unused insulin converts to fat primarily stored in the abdomen. Insulin should open cells to covert carbs to glucose, but with IR it doesn't work correctly. We produce more and more insulin as a result. Eventually the over worked pancreas could wear out, not producing insulin and the you are diabetic, too much sugar in your blood possibly requiring insulin meds. This is why it is so important to low carb. and take insulin sensitizing drugs as weight loss , even 10% of body weight should get good results. You have a good understanding of this confusing problem. It is a metabolic disorder, our hormones are out of balance, we were born this way. The earlier treatment is started the healthier our old age will be as IR causes ........................................ CHAOS Coronary heart disease Hypertension Adult onset diabetes Obesity Stroke My Endo said if treated in a persons 20's she wouldn't be seeing people in the 60's with heart attacks and strokes. Keep in mind that men are insulin resistant also. Clara age 48 with 3 out of 5 the above.
