it depends on what prompts the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. sometimes the pancreas can suffer natural "burn out" due to reasons other than too much insulin. there are also cases (like mine was) where my pancreas got "tired" from pumping out too much insulin over a long period of time. when my insulin needs went down (with glucophage treatment and lowering my carb intake) my pancreas could keep up. so i was type 2 diabetic BECAUSE i had high insulin for so long it caused my pancreas to "burn out"
