PCOS? no high androgens, no hirsutism...

Hello,

I'm writing because I'm feeling very unconfident about the diagnosis and treatment that I'm getting right now... It all started back in September when I came down with a really high fever and massive pain in my abdomen. It lasted about three days, and included spotty bleeding. I wasn't sure whether the bleeding was from the vagina or the urethra, so we ended up doing tests for everything. Now, 9 months on I still have pain on the *right* side, pain during intercourse, hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain, fatigue, water retention, and periods that are getting farther and farther apart each month. Last week I started having nausea, as well, and I had some light spotting along with a low grade fever for two days. It actually feels as if I were 2 months pregnant now with the weird hungry then nauseus flips.

In February I was finally seen by a gyn dr. He took one look at me said, you are obese and it's quite clearly PCOS. He sent me for an ultrasound and blood tests. The ultrasound came back with cysts on the image (I've been told), but the blood tests came out negative -- no high levels of androgens that were expected. I also do NOT have hirsutism or androgen-type obesity (my hip to waist ratio is quite curvy, despite my 240 pounds). I was sent to an STD clinic for my complaints of pain during intercourse (it's probably PID, he said) but all tests for bacteria and viruses came back negative. I've got my next appointment with the gyn in 6 MONTHS, and this just seems obsene to me... I am receiving no medications or other treatment in the meantime. I've just been ordered to "Go lose weight".

First of all, if I do have PCOS, does that explain all the other symptoms? And what should I be doing to improve these with the lack of actual medical treatment? Should I be asking for any other tests or any specific treatment information?

Also, I haven't seen any other mention of the hot flashes or nausea with PCOS... do any of you experience either of those?

Thanks for your advice and experience in all this...

- sterling
