Re: What else causes wacky LH/FSH ratio?From: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 16 May 2002 09:00:39 -0500 (CDT)
Don't know what CAH is, but there might be other causes for a wacky LH/FSH ratio, I do think that PCOS is the most common cause. I think I read that pitutory tumors can cause an imbalance but with high FSH rather than high LH. My ratio was around 1.5 before treatment, since glucophage treatment my FSH has gone up (mine started at 3.9), my estrodiol(sp?) down which are both good things, but my LH went down too so I have less than a 1:1 ratio. (I'm 38 so it could just be an age thing). As I was researching I did find one article that said high estridol will lower FSH which makes the LH:FSH ratio more exagerated. But the lab values aren't optimal values, so you need to research. Here's a link to a very good site: http://www.inciid.org/faq/pcos.html If your fasting insulin is high (10 or more) or if you have elevated testosterone, or DHEA these are other signs that the problem is PCOS rather than something else.
