I've got a bit of a problem with insomnia myself, so I can definitely sympathize. I've had nights where I sit and stare at the television and nearly cry out of frusturation.

I'd definitely check with the doctor to rule out any sort of hormonal imbalance (which, if your insomnia is caused by depression/ainxiety, its entirely possible), and I'd also make an appointment with a psychologist or a psychaitrist. They are very effective to coming to the root of your issue if it does not turn out to be hormonal in nature. Most medical insurance companies handle this, and some do offer a sliding scale if you are unable to afford their usual fees. Unfourtunately, this does require a little bit of hunting, but your local Health Services should have the information.

OTC sleeping aids can help, but aren't meant to be taken for long periods, and if you have any issues with addiction, its not a good idea. Melatonin may also help.

Some people also just need less sleep. So if you are fine on a few hours of sleep, it may just be the way you tick.
