Re: I lost my period!From: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 9 May 2002 09:16:38 -0500 (CDT)
The regular met again might do the trick... but I'm wondering if maybe the aldactone played a role? I took aldactone for a little over a month at one time - 200mg a day - and after I stopped (due to constant vaginal bleeding) I had clockwork periods, every 5 weeks, for the next 4 months. This was priot to starting metformin... and I have NEVER had regular periods before in my life. I have this hunch that the manner in which aldactone blocks testosterones effects on the skin also blocks the effects on the ovary... and can allow for ovulation/regular periods. I have read that there have been scattered reports of its being used as a fertility agent but that this is not reccomended due to the birth defects risk... I think I read this in Thatcher's book. Just a thought... it COULD have been that the met wasn't what was working for you, rather it was the aldactone. Try going on regular met again, though - it's available in generic now, whee! - and see if that helps. Why did your doc switch your meds if they were working for you? Are you ttc? - jodi =
