acanthosis nigracans IS a symptom IR. most doctors consider it diagnostic. if you just had your glucose levels checked, that test will not tell you whether you are IR or not, simply whether you are diabetic. you need either a fasting insulin (which can often show false negative results) or an IGTT (insulin glucose tolerance test). the IGTT is essentially the same procedure as the GTT, but they also draw for insulin levels.
