The previous message was very good with very good advice.

I just wanted to say that you should never rely on doctors or lab values. I learned this the hard way.

I was told for two years that my thyroid levels were normal, high normal but normal because of where they fell in the lab ranges. I had depression. For two years I tried to correct it by taking antidepressants that not only didn't work but really seemed to have toxic side effects. Turned out when I went to investigate issues regarding thyroid disease, that "normal" for the lab wasn't normal because the population used to determine normal contained people in the early stages of thyroid disease. Thyroid treatment cured my depression.

My PCOS diagnosis was questionable to me. My LH to FSH wasn't 3:1 or 2:1 it was just more than 1:1 and my insulin level was something like 13 and I had pretty normal periods. But I did have a lot of symptoms related to the insulin resistance and a family history of diabetes and endocrine disease. My endo and Ob-gyn had no doubt that I had PCOS. Then I realized through additional research, and this site that I was probably once again in the early stages of a disease, and I didn't want to be forego treatment for it and progress to a worse stage as I had before with my thyroid.

Get your lab results, print out articles, try to work with your doctor, or switch to a new one. I have had five endos and am on my sixth soon as the fifth was good but communication and wait times very poor.

I also worked out like crazy without losing weight - for 8 months. When I went on glucopage I lost 15 pounds without exercising (over 4 month period).

Best wishes.

Anne
