Candi It is absolutely inappropriate, and in many states illegal to use thyroid medication for any other purpose than to treat a thryoid insufficency. (It has been abused as a weight loss remedy.) Look it up in the physician's desk reference, you will see warnings about it. If you do not need thyroid supplementation taking it will make you chemically hyperthyroid, this does not necessarily mean that you will lose weight - I gained twenty pounds when hyper. I take both because I have both insulin resistance/PCOS and hypothyroidism and it makes no difference on the side effects that I've noticed. Time will take care of the side effects for most people. I have no gallbladder and therefore tend to have lower GI problems but I have been able to tolerate the glucophage side effects. You should never take any kind of hormone replacement without lab results which indicate that it is warranted. If I were you, I would find a new doctor cause this one sounds a bit quackers to me. BTW - sythroid the worst thyroid medication. It has had many potency recalls and its manufacturer was the subject of a sucessful antitrust action.
