ProblemsFrom: Ang (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 2 May 2002 21:41:00 -0500 (CDT)
I was treated several years ago with Depakote for Bipolar (Manic-Depressive) Disorder. I was on this medication for quite some time. Not long after beginning Depakote, my menstrual cycles seemed to come and go. I developed an ovarian cyst.(But I was told it was "not big enough to cause problems".) I was treated with birth control. The cyst went away. My cycles never got back on track. They would come regularly for a few months then I would begin missing them again. I have been off Depakote for a few years now. I was diagnosed at the age of 18 with Diabetes. I am now "Insulin-Dependant". I recently developed another cyst. This time it was 2cm. Again, I was treated with birth control. It has since went down. Now I seem to be developing symptoms of another cyst. My hair has thinned drastically, I've gained an excessive amount of weight, I sweat more than what would be "normal", I experience almost all the symptoms I've read about in your Website. Here's my problem: Is what I've been going through considered PCOS? I can't seem to get my doctors to investigate this any further. They just treat the problems when they arise. What do I do? Please, any response would be helpful. Thanks!
