Re: Just Got My Lab Results BackFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 24 Apr 2002 14:01:00 -0500 (CDT)
Any values would be an average and possibly not the values for your specific lab, but they should be close. Free Testosterone should be between 0.7 - 3.6 pg/ml. Testosterone should be between 23 - 75 ng/dl for women, however most doctors consider anything over 50 is too high for pre-menapausal women. Prolactin should be between an undetectable amount to 23 ng/dl. I do not know about the ohps. I do not ever hearing of an ohps as a lab value before. I have no clue as to why they would refuse to prescribe spiro. Spironolactone is a potassium sparing diuretic meaning that it reduces the fluid levels and causing the concentration of potassium to increase. This is not normally a problem but it can be if you are on other meds which may increase your K levels, such as potassium suppliments or drugs to treat high blood pressure (ACE inhibitors). If you are taking anything that may already raise your potassium levels, the use of spiro. may cause life-threatening K-levels. If you are taking meds for BP, the pill may not be for you but the Ortho-Cyclen is a mono-phasic pill and is better for us than the tri-phasic varieties. I have found that met. has done very well at helping my hormone levels.
