Re: Do I have PCOS.From: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 21 Apr 2002 11:56:18 -0500 (CDT)
Some of the symptoms *do* sound like PCOS. It would be a good idea for you to visit http://www.pcosupport.org. You can take a quiz there that will help you decide if you are likely to have PCOS. PCOS is a diagnosis that is still new for many women and the difinitions have recently changed for many doctors. Since that is the case, it is still unclear to many what is a symptom of PCOS and what is not. Many women here may have a symptom but unless *more* women with PCOS have that symptom than other women in general, it is not a symptom of PCOS. It is merely a symptom of something. The best thing for each of us to do is to educate ourselves on the known symptoms of PCOS until other research comes in. With PCOS, this is of particular importance since it was once thought that all women with PCOS were fat, hairy and had cysts on their ovaries. We now know that only about 1/2 of us are obese, some of us do not have facial hair issues, some of us are not balding and not all of us have cysts on our ovaries. PCOS is a syndrome. That means that not everyone will have the same symptoms as everyone else. If you go to http://www.pcosupport.org and you do not find all of the answers you are looking for, you should be able to do a search for your individual symptoms here and find some results.
