Re: the deeps joys of the uk national healthFrom: anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 19 Apr 2002 08:28:27 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I've ranted on here recently too-- at much greater length and yup, I'm not sure who they think they are. Are you seeing a G.P or a specialist like an endocrinologist? If you are seeing a G.P for this, you need to get a referral, as even a really lovely up to date G.P can't really be expected to manage this. Perhaps take in some literature from good sources in with you on how PCOS untreated leads to diabetes, increased risk of heart disease etc, if your doctor does not otherwise think the disease is worth treating i.e for quality of life, sanity! Now I have been seeing a specialist on the NHS- hey at least we have one- and getting nowhere fast. or slowly actually. So it does seem very hit and miss. I am assuming you cannot afford to go private right now if you are at university? Now Glasgow Royal seems to research PCOS, at any rate they are interested in it, recognise the I.R link, are conducting Avandia trials at present, I think, and published an article on PCOS in the BMJ in 1998, which I'm sorry I haven't linked, but Belle published a load of links including this one in the last week. I think the post with all the links to articles was in reply to an 'Is there hope?' post. So obviously that's great if you live in or want to live in Glasgow...other than that I'm not sure..... good luck
