Re: Question to Barbara on her progressFrom: Barb (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 19 Apr 2002 00:33:36 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, While I am still using Saw Palmetto as well as Dong Quai-my progress is basically where physical appearance problems and menstral irregularities exhisted.I have continued success with hair growth(no more hair is falling out accept for maybe twenty strands a day-if that much....I may get an occasional pimple before onset of menses(acne is now a thing of the past for me),my face is clear and healthy looking, menstral cycles are about every 21-25 days....starts out light....heavier on the second and third days...then tapers off..last for five days in total.I never had problems with hair growth in unwanted places accept for a few hairs on my neck and a couple eyebrow hairs that grow like wildfire.....this never bothered me..although I was always curious..As for Dong Quai...my experiences on this have been everything but negative.I have not had clotty, painful periods..they come monthly and it has helped me with hot flashes.I would not take Dong Quai unless your primary doctor agrees to your using it,as it has blood thinning qualities and should *not* be taken during menestration.I *do* ovulate monthly as well, but again,I always did..judging by my past miscarriages.I don't know what vitex is. I am on several different natural remedies,if you would like-I would be happy to provide you with a list offline.I don't really don't know if the others have a place in your medicine cabinet.I have other health issues. If you feel that you may have PCOS-you've come to the right place. I am in no position to give advice,as this is a new ball game for me,but if I were you and instincts have brought you here...get a referral to an endocrinologist to get a diagnosis. There are many very knowledgeable women that can give you much better advice than I can about PCOS.Unfortunately,I was unable to take the metformin, this is one of the drugs of choice for PCOS/Insulin Resistance. That is why I have resorted to the use of non conventional medications with doc's approval and his reccomendations. Hoping this helps.
