Having PCOS and Gaining weight with Cyproterone and MarvelonFrom: Clare (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 18 Apr 2002 14:02:50 -0500 (CDT)
Last year I was diagnosed with PCOS, the specialist my doctor referred me to, then said I needed surgery, for the removal of cysts on my left ovary. September came around, had the surgery and not really known anything like it.. I'm 23 and it was my first time in Hospital... being the youngest person on the ward was also a little overwhelming. Recovery felt like I was up there with the 40 and 50 year olds who have had hysterectomies.. took a long time. Went back to work slowly after 6 weeks.. but then proceeded to be the worst hormal wreck in the world (felt like someone had switched my hormones on like a gushing tap) I was always crying in front of my boss for no apparent reason.. very embarassing as I am not normally a person who cries. Anyway... the reason for writing this is, I have been put on Cyproterone Acetate (taken days 1-10 of cycle, 50mg per day) and Marvelon. I couldn't go on the dianette - because of Migraines. I have been on this combination of drugs for 3 months, and in those three months I have put on a stone (14lb) ,in weight (5KGs I think? Not sure on the conversion). I did weigh 12 stone and my weight was stable, but I now weigh 13 stone, 1 stone in 3 months!! Has anyone else out there had a similar problem? As this seems to contradict everything I have read and been told about PCOS. I don't want to gain anymore weight, plus does your condition not get worse with weight gain? Is there anyone else out there who is on a different combination of drugs, or has had similar weight gain? I would be pleased to hear from you.
-- Many thanks
